Great Baddow Dog Training Club, Chelmsford, Essex GREAT BADDOW DOG TRAINING CLUB has been established for over 25 years and are Kennel Club Registered with a friendly and kind atmosphere.

We offer a range of classes - puppies/pre-beginners, beginners, novice and above, our trainers will also help you with any specific problem that you have.

Whether your dog has specific problems or you just want to enjoy your dog more, for dogs of all ages, breeds come along, most importantly socialise him/her, teach it obedience which is why a lot of the time dogs end up in rescue centres because their owners cannot control them.

See how your dogs have fun with training and who knows you may even get yourself hooked on collecting those rosettes and trophies!!

Twice a year we hold a Progress Test for all classes, with a Trophy for 1st Place and Rossettes to 4th Place. From this test, handlers and dogs can then move on to the next level. Between these Progress Tests, it will be at a trainer’s discretion if you are ready to move on.

Members are encouraged to bring your pet’s favourite toy when they attend classes. Food rewards are used cheese, sausages or all dogs love liver cake. Choke chains are not allowed on any dog. After each exercise you will use the toy or food to praise your dog encouraging your dog to want to work with you.

Classes are held on a Wednesday evening from 7p.m. at Widford Village Hall, 58 Widford Road, Chelmsford CM2 8SY.

In September we hold an ‘Open Obedience Show’ held under Kennel Club Rules and Regulations in Great Baddow. The show has proved to be a very successful and popular event with handlers travelling from far away to compete. This too, is very enjoyable, there is a Trophy for the highest placed member, but we also encourage all members to come along and participate with helping on the day, as there are many things to get involved in.

At the end of the year in December we hold a Dog’s Christmas Party with games and prizes, a dog’s fancy dress, buffet (for the handlers) which is always a very enjoyable and fun evening.

Puppies / Pre-Beginners
Not only puppies, socialisation is so important to any dog. Along with teaching owners how to handle their dogs, basic commands are taught in this class. Once the handler and dog have learnt initial obedience commands they can then move up to the next level. This initial training is vital to your dog’s development.

Beginners
Once handler and dog have learnt the basic commands you will go on to learn different exercises i.e. heelwork, recall, retrieve, send away. You are encouraged to play and talk to your dog making it much more enjoyable for both handler and dog, but, at the same time achieving your aim in getting your dog to perform the exercises. A lot of time and patience on both the handler’s and trainer’s part is required, but well worth it, but most importantly enjoying it too.

Novice & Above
Having been taught and guided through these exercises you can then go on to refine your dog’s positioning with the exercises taught. You will also learn new exercises which will be required if you wish to improve your standard, but at the same time still have fun with your dog.
